Social diversity and bridging identity

چکیده

Abstract We investigate within a model of cultural transmission how policies or shocks that affect social diversity population cohesion and segregation. develop the concept ‘bridging identity’, an individual trait (i) positively affects utility in culturally diverse groups but is immaterial homogeneous (ii) fostered those born not groups. show medium levels immigration lead to higher bridging identity population; and, for given target, segregation decreasing time allowed achieving this target. If level pace are attuned existing identity, it possible sustain, long run, diverse. This contrasts with Schelling’s models residential typically increasing over time.
